Survivor, a novel written by Chuck Palahniuk in 1999, is a very deranged dramatic comedy. Written from the end to the beginning (even the page numbers count down,) this book builds up with a backwards and insane plot. Tender Branson is a “surviving” member of the Creedish Church District, which is a death cult. Branson has hijacked a Boeing 747-400, and is the cockpit telling his life story into the black box (an indestructible box that records all activity inside of the plane.) It’s unexplainable. It’s sick. The underlining aspects are suicide, the commercial world, sex, people being servants of the human race, death, faux health and the list goes on. Critics label Chuck Palahniuk as a “shock writer.” Survivor, like all his works, is definitely shocking to say the least, but completely satisfying.
